Hairdressing is a lifestyle. It’s how I’ve formed lifelong friendships and made many wonderful memories. I still get a buzz out of staying up to date with current industry trends, products and techniques and I understand the importance of constantly advancing our skillset.
John St has a team of talented hairdressers and that’s why the salon continues to flourish. There’s a great ambience, and it’s always satisfying to see our clients leave the salon feeling positive and confident.
If I’m not hairdressing, you’ll find me spending time with my family or escaping to Lake Taupo for some rest and relaxation. You may even find me doing a spot of trout fishing – but that’s another story.
Amy
With nearly 20 years experience in the industry, I love all aspects of hairdressing but particularly cut and colour. I get great satisfaction from sending clients out feeling better than when they came in. You can check out some of my work on Instagram: @hair_by_amy_lynaire.
Working at John St has inspired me in so many ways. I have learnt so much working alongside Kathy and the team. Using Keune has been great too. Their colours are nourishing on the hair and come out so shiny.
In my spare time my family and I love to take our dog on adventures and walk on the beach and around Wellington’s walkways.
Melissa
My favourite aspects of hairdressing are colouring and extensions. The most rewarding part of the job is seeing a client walk out feeling confident and satisfied with their new look.
I have gained so much knowledge at John St, working alongside stylists who have strengths in a range of different areas.
Outside of work I enjoy baking sweet treats and spending quality time with my family.
Taylor
My favourite aspect of hairdressing is colouring, and especially blonde work! There is nothing more satisfying than a huge transformation.

Dayna

Outside of work I also express my creativity through drawing, dance & art.

The thing I love about hairdressing is the satisfaction when a client leaves the salon smiling and feeling great – whether they’ve had a cut, colour work, or simply had their hair done for the evening.
John St is an awesome place to work, with a talented crew who have always got your back and who work well as a team.
I split my time between the salon and a care-giving job. In my spare time I like to be outdoors as much as I can.
Casey
After five years working full time in the hairdressing industry I decided to take a break and pursue a career in another passion of mine – travel! Fast forward another five years and I have returned, feeling revived and refreshed!
John St is an amazing place to work. The hours are flexible and it’s an awesome team to work alongside. My favourite aspects of hairdressing are colour and restyle haircuts!
When I’m not in the salon, you’ll catch me (or you won’t) chasing after my cheeky two year old boy, Colton.
Zara
I’m passionate about many aspects of the hairdressing industry. I have a particular creative flare for free hand balayage – painting hair to really personalise a client’s look. You can find my work on Instagram: @zarapound
After moving to Wellington from overseas it has been lovely to find a hair family at John St and to work in a positive and passionate salon environment!
When I’m not in the salon you can find me exploring Wellington and its surroundings, and sampling the New Zealand wine!
Shey
Hairdressing is a great creative outlet for me – especially colour work, which I really enjoy.

I love being part of making someone feel beautiful inside and out. It’s so rewarding to see clients leave the salon with a huge smile on their face.
I have learnt so much at John St and I’m keen to keep learning new things about the hairdressing industry.
When I’m not with the stylists and their clients I am on the water sailing with my sister.

What I love most about being involved in hairdressing is seeing the amazing transformations that our stylists can create, and the happiness of customers afterwards.
John St hair salon really has such a great personality – everyone is so thoughtful and supportive. It really is a wonderful place to learn and gain experience.
Besides helping stylists, I also enjoy circus arts and sailing with my twin.
